Olly is a portable light that helps users to naturally wake up and maintain a healthy circadian rhythm using its unique LED lighting technology. The natural light LEDs suppress melatonin and has the effects similar to caffeine from drinking a cup of coffee. We took this metaphor as an inspiration to design Olly’s iconic shape.
The light’s protective cap doubles as a stand where the light can stand on it magnetically, making it look like a small espresso cup. The light emitting area looks as if the cup is completely filled with liquid and is rising out from the liquid’s surface tension, creating a unique detail. The intricate layout of multiple magnets allows the light to sit in two positions. When standing up the light is off, and it can be tilted to turn the light on. With this simple and effective idea, the product becomes easily portable for any environment such as working in a cafe or office, studying in a library, or picnics in the park.
